Halloween & Covid-19: How To Have Fun While Staying Safe

The leaves are falling from the trees, the days are getting shorter and Halloween is right around the corner. Due to the safety guidelines to prevent the spread of Covid-19, it’s only wise to avoid trick-or-treating and traditional Halloween parties this year. However, this doesn’t mean Halloween is cancelled! Though some Halloween traditions may look different, there are still plenty of creative ways to turn October 31st into a festive and special day. So, get your scariest costume ready and make it a Halloween to remember by implementing the following four tips.

Carving pumpkins

Those who think of Halloween will obviously be reminded about pumpkins. With their beautiful decorations, carved faces and burning tea lights, pumpkin lanterns are real atmospheric creators in and among the house. A halloween pumpkin is quite easy to make with only a few supplies needed. Additionally, the activity can be done at home, with your roommates or family members. You can either free-hand a design or print out a classic template. Let your creativity flow, make some really cool creations and enjoy the spooky but cozy ambiance!

Wear your costume

Of course, Halloween is nothing without scary costumes. However, just because you can’t go to a party in your perfect Halloween costume, it doesn’t mean that you can’t wear it at all. Together with your roommates you can have a little costume party, play games and have a Halloween photoshoot. To make it even more fun, you can create a special theme, or have a price for the person with the best outfit. Whatever you have planned for the upcoming Halloween, we promise that it will be more fun when you are in your costume.

Watch a scary movie

Watching a scary movie on Halloween is a classic activity for a reason and despite the stricter measures, you can still pop into the seat with a blanket and a supply of your favourite snacks. This way you can watch a horror movie on your own, but also together with your lover or roommate. Even when it’s not possible to physically be together with others, you can still watch the same movie by making use of for instance Netflix Party. This cool function synchronizes Netflix-video’s for all viewers and allows you to chat with each other at the same time!

Make delicious Halloween Punch

The fact that we can’t attend some real Halloween parties doesn’t mean we also have to skip the alcoholic beverages. One of my personal favourites is punch. This recipe is easy and contains only a few ingredients.

  • 500 ml ginger beer
  • 1 liter Fernandes Cherry bouquet
  • 300 ml Havana Club rum anejo

Just before serving, pour the cold ginger bear, the cold cherry liquor and the cold rum into a tall glass dish. Making this red punch will get you all in a complete Halloween mood and will guarantee a night to remember (or not if you drink too much ;))

I really hope that the above mentioned tips will help you celebrate Halloween in a safe and creative way. We all have to make adjustments which can sometimes be frustrating, but by talking about it and sharing ideas and experiences we can make the best of it.
