As we all know, living in these current times brings a lot of limitations. This is definitely the case for going to the gym. In the Netherlands, gyms have been closed since December 14th 2020, which has almost been three months from now. Currently, we are all unsure of when the gyms are reopening. Thus, we must find other ways to stay fit and luckily, there are many alternatives which can help us all to get fit in 2021!
With the springtime coming up, and the sun being out longer. It is the perfect time to exercise in the open air. Going on a run is a great way of exercise, and many people like to do it. However, running is not for everyone, and that is completely fine. Besides running, walking is also a great way of getting fit. By going on a daily walk, you not only burn calories by moving your body, but perhaps also your mind by putting on a nice podcast or audiobook during your walk, to keep yourself entertained.
Another great and fun way to exercise is by skipping! A simple jump rope session can really get your heart rate up. Did you know that the intensity of 10 minutes of skipping is equal to 30 minutes of jogging? Skipping is surely an intense, but simple and fun way of exercise, which is definitely recommended!
Besides working out in the open air, you can also work out from home. There are many different resources on YouTube, where you can find all sorts of workout videos, as well as fitness YouTubers who can motivate and guide you during your workouts. My personal favourites are Lilly Sabri, Chloe Ting & POPSUGAR Fitness. All sorts of workouts can be found online, from yoga, to pilates, to dance workouts. It’s all there!
When it comes to weight training, things can be a little tricky. For weight training, a lot of workout equipment is placed in the gym and purchasing these can be quite expensive. But don’t worry, there are other types of ways in which you can practice your strength training. Using your own bodyweight, for example, can be a great way of weight training. Besides this, you can also get creative and use some heavy items that you might find in the house, such as big water bottles, heavy books, or a chair in certain instances.
During this time, we have to be resourceful and creative to get by. It is important to look after ourselves and our own health. Hopefully, these tips will help you get your body moving and be active!
